The worst audition I ever went on was perfect for me. The job was just right. I had to do juggling and comedy, and it was exactly my wheelhouse. The reason it was the worst was because I didn’t get it. What made it horrible was that they didn’t understand that I was the best person for the job.
These are the missed opportunities. We don’t have to look better than who we are. We have to look exactly as good as we are, so we are understood and so we get the opportunities that are right for us. That’s where we make money: by being valuable and by being seen.
Reinforce the value
One thing we want to do on the website is reinforce the value. We state what the value is at the top of the website, then we go down through and show things that prove that value.
If we show an award, that award is supposed to represent the value. So if my value is that I’m a very unique creator of films, the award I would show is from an obscure, crazy film festival. The quote I would show is from a pioneering director, instead of showing that I’m at AMC theaters and Spielberg loves me.
The truth always looks better. You’re already great. Let people know the truth without any decoration. They want you.
